Lean

Lean is a process of continuous improvement that focuses on the the elimination of the 8 Deadly Wastes:

  • Overproduction

  • Overprocessing

  • Motion

  • Waiting

  • Transportation

  • Inventory

  • Rework of Defects

  • Unused Employee Potential

 

Lean stresses the PDCA method, the 5S's, PULLING instead of pushing inventory, the VALUE STREAM, and FLOW.

LEAN = LESS WASTE.

Six Sigma

Six Sigma is concerned with the elimination of variation. Under the DMAIC methodology, structured teams work on projects that are chartered by a sponsor or champion and use a specific process that is measurement based, statistics-oriented, and focused on clear communication using advanced graphing systems. Six Sigma may be technical, but it never forgets the human element.

SIX SIGMA = LOWER DEFECTS.
